We left Ezekiel on the banks of the river Chebar. Suddenly, he sees the Elohim coming down from the sky. In verse 4, the author vividly portrays an awe-inspiring sight.
“As I looked, a stormwind came from the North, a huge cloud with flashing fire(enveloped in brightness), from the midst of which(the midst of the fire) something gleamed like electrum.”
Armed with the linguistic and conceptual means at his disposal, Ezekiel seems to describe a large cloud that advances from the north, accompanied by strange luminous manifestations. The cloud’s arrival is also accompanied by a considerable displacement of air, such as to be associated by the author with a stormwind.
The author notes that the “cloud” arrives specifically from the North. This detail it’s quite significant. In fact, mystical visions do not ‘come’ from precise cardinal directions, consequently, we can deduce that Ezekiel’s is describing a real event rather than a mystical experience.
Ānān (עָנן) — the cloud
Now, It is necessary to pay attention to the Hebrew term that is typically translated as “cloud” (עָנן — Ānān), since ‘cloud’ does not accurately convey its true meaning.
The exact meaning of Ānān remains uncertain due to its uncertain root. Various scholars propose different roots, resulting in different interpretations of the word’s meaning.
Besides the strictly philological issue that we will address in detail in the series “Ufos in the Bible — the flight of the gods”, we know that the so-called biblical “clouds” did things that normal clouds don’t do.
Whatever it was, the Ānān (the cloud) seemed to be instead some sophisticated transportation vehicle that the Elohim used, so much so that all the biblical deities — from the Old Testament to the New — often arrived aboard these “clouds” or somehow used them, even our lord Jesus who will be eventually abducted by a “cloud” and who on the “clouds” will come back.

But let’s go back to Ezekiel, It is worth rereading the verse:
“As I looked, a stormwind came from the North, a huge cloud with flashing fire (enveloped in brightness), from the midst of which (the midst of the fire) something gleamed like electrum.”
The prophet, describes something — the so-called “cloud” — appearing on the horizon and arriving from a precise direction, that is from the north.
The cloud’s arrival is accompanied by luminous and electric elements and a considerable displacement of air, such as to be associated by the author with a stormwind.
The “cloud” moreover, is described to be “with flashing fire (enveloped in brightness)”, a very elaborated expression that gives an idea of how difficult it was for Ezekiel to describe things never seen before,(like electric light sources) and that also leads to a variety of possible explanations.
What is this “enveloped in brightness flashing fire”? sequential lights? Most likely Ezekiel is talking about the whole set of light systems integrated in the UFO.
Ezekiel continues: “from the midst of which (the midst of the fire) something gleamed like electrum.”
The terms used by Ezekiel could describe a propulsion system, located in the center of the spacecraft, and the expression “gleamed like electrum” recalls to some form of artificial electric radiation.
Immediately afterwards, Ezekiel sees four living beings in human form.
Ezekiel 1, verse 5: “Within it were figures resembling four living creatures that looked like this: their form was human”
The matter starts to get heated: now we not only have flying objects, but also “living creatures” with human form.
4.Ezekiel Vision: Alien Lights
Ezekiel 1, verse 13: “something similar to torches moved from one side to the other, between living creatures, and the fire was bright, and the lightning was coming out from the fire.“
Lets start from the first section: “something similar to torches moved from one side to the other, between living creatures”.
We visualize Ezekiel observing the scene from a certain distance. He sees the light sequence produced by the object moving from one side to the other, and having no idea what it was, describes it like “something like torches moving between living creatures”, and from his visual perspective it would in fact appear like the “torches“ could pass among the living creatures.
“Lightning was coming out from the fire”;
We wonder if an indigenous of North Sentinel Island in the Bay of Bengali in India would not utter similar words at the first sight of a smartphone turned on. As we have discussed at length in the article “Earth and the stars: cultural clashes” human beings use words and concepts available in their cultural background to describe realities or things never seen before, and these verses of Ezekiel are a splendid example of it.
It is easy to hear how the author copes describing elaborated luminous radiations obviously never seen before, like the artificial ones coming from the UFO.
We think Ezekiel is simply describing the lighting effects produced by the UFO. And he does it in his own way, with his own words of 2600 years ago.
5.Ezekiel Vision: Alien Technology
As we have seen, in verse 5 Ezekiel tells us that he saw “living creatures” in human form.
The living creatures described by Ezekiel appear to be endowed with supernatural powers and to make use of highly advanced technologies.
The verses ranging from 14 to 21 are emblematic and once again leave serious doubts on the mystical or religious nature of this story. On the contrary it confirm — given the high number of technical descriptions — that Ezekiel handed down to us a true story.
Let’s read them together:
“14The creatures sped back and forth like flashes of lightning.”
Wow, these beings move at the speed of light. Not only that, but they seem to be escorted by some enigmatic wheels.
“15 As I looked at the living creatures, I saw a wheel on the ground beside each creature with its four faces.
16 This was the appearance and structure of the wheels: They sparkled like topaz, and all four looked alike. Each appeared to be made like a wheel intersecting a wheel.“
The text is clear: Ezekiel describes circular, wheel-like elements and is not shy of providing further details as features of the wheels: “They sparkled like topaz“ and “all four looked alike”.

He also points out that “Each appeared to be made like a wheel intersecting a wheel” or depending on the translation “they were like wheels in the middle of another wheel”, a description that recalls a whirling system.
The story goes on and the sight of Ezekiel’s spaceships becomes more and more shocking:
“21 When the creatures moved, they also moved [the wheels]; when the creatures stood still, they also stood still; and when the creatures rose from the ground, the wheels rose along with them, because the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.”
It is clear that Ezekiel is amazed to realize how the wheels move autonomously but in sync with the “living creatures“. The wheels seem to “escort” the ”living creatures” constantly. Wherever they would go the wheels would go with them, even when the living creatures leave the ground. Yes, because these humanoid beings can also fly.
Ezekiel also tells us that “the spirit of living creatures was in the wheels”. This description suggests a form of connection between living creatures and wheels. As if they were remotely connected in real time.
Deafening noise.
We conclude with verse 24, probably among the most emblematic of all. Here Ezekiel describes the scene before his eyes, a scene that somehow recalls what still happens today when our military aircrafts or combat vehicles are in motion:
“Then I heard the sound of their wings, like the roaring of mighty waters, like the voice of the Almighty. When they moved, the sound of the tumult was like the din of an army. (And when they stood still, they lowered their wings.)“
In verse 24, Ezekiel continues the description of what he is seeing and hearing. Ezekiel notes that when these flying beings and objects are in motion, the sound they produce resembles the clamor and hustle of a vast army or the thunderous roar of powerful waters, evoking a sense of immense strength and force. Just like our modern fighter planes, Ezekiel spaceships make a deafening noise.

Moreover, when they come to a standstill, they lower their wings, exactly as our most modern fighter planes do.
At its core, Ezekiel’s account immerses us in a realm where extraordinary alien technologies intertwine with captivating encounters involving unidentified flying objects (UFOs). Within these vivid descriptions, we are granted a glimpse into wonders that surpass the bounds of human imagination.
Ezekiel has gifted humanity with a meticulous chronicle, a detailed testimony that encompasses a close encounter of the fourth kind. This profound and transformative experience surpasses the confines of our known reality, forever etching its significance into the timeless records of our history.
“But we at least have to wonder if UFO aliens may have control over us the way we used to believe the angels of God controlled and directed human destiny” — Rev. Dr. Barr H. Downing
